Cancer Misdiagnosis Claims – Medical Negligence

Many people find it difficult to comprehend, with so many advances in modern medicine, that it is still a regular occurrence that cancer is misdiagnosed.

The most common type of misdiagnosis occurs when there is a delay in diagnosing cancer. As cancer is considered to be progressive and in many cases can spread quickly. Early diagnosis can mean the difference between life and death. A delay in the diagnosis, in many cases, is due to misdiagnosis / medical malpractice. Some cancers are easier to detect than others and can be diagnosed through the use of screening tests, however, even when these screening tests are carried out, mistakes can be made in evaluating these scans.

We have all been shocked and upset to learn of the recent inexplicable failures of the HSE and the Cervical Check Screening. Many young women died needlessly as a result of this outrageous incompetence. People place an inherent trust in their doctors and in recent times that trust has been shattered for many people. The below list is in no way exhaustive and there are many types of cancer that can be misdiagnosed or diagnosis is delayed.

Common Types of Cancer that Require Screening

The most common types of cancer where these screening tests are carried out: Cervical Cancer, Breast Cancer, Prostate Cancer, Lung Cancer, Colorectal Cancer. This list is in no way exhaustive and there are many types of cancer that can be misdiagnosed or diagnosis is delayed: Melanoma, Lung Cancer, Testicular Cancer, Throat Cancer, Bowel & stomach Cancer, Brain Tumor, Ovarian Cancer, Leukemia
